Inspiration Photos

So today is day 17 of the blogging challenge hosted by Rosalilium, and the prompt of the day is Walk to Work. Describe or photograph your walk to work. Or journey to work if you use transport. Is it pretty or incredibly dull? Can you find something of interest on your way?

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll know about my compulsion to take ‘inspiration photos’. Inspiration photos are what I use to inspire drawings, doodles and art journal pages whenever I’m feeling a bit stumped, or want to try something a bit new. I get inspired by these photos in different ways. Sometimes I’ll draw exactly what I’ve taken a photo of. Sometimes I’ll let the shapes of the subject inspire different patterns and doodles. Sometimes I’ll use a colour palette that features in a photo. Sometimes I’ll incorporate the composition of the photo but change the different elements. The possibilities are pretty much endless. Having said that, I seem to take hundreds of these photos, but I only ever use one or two.

Today I took a batch of ‘inspiration photos’ on my way to work:

I think I might set myself a little challenge, to try to push my creativity a bit more, and use some of these photos the way I always intend to (but rarely get round to)…. would you be interested in seeing my creations up on this blog?

Inspiration Photos – Sugar Skulls

So the monthly art journal theme on Wild Soul Arts is ‘Sugar Skulls’. I’ve seen these a lot in other people’s artwork, and they can be absolutely stunning. As much as I really wanted to try my own I wasn’t too sure where to start, so I decided to go on a little quest for inspiration. Luckily, as the October is the month of worldwide Halloween obsession, this wasn’t too hard to find… Here are some of my inspiration photos, that will probably creep into my art at some point. I hope they inspire you to create something festive too!

Some of these are definitely less sugary than others, but I had so much fun on my little treasure hunt, I don’t even care! Have a great weekend guys, hopefully I’ll be back soon with some art based on these photos!

P.S. Because I just can’t resist sharing a few more…
